Edit AutoFittingOptions.xml
An alternative to modifying the application's datagroup catalogs to change the default elbow is to change the routing behavior at the application level. Automatic fitting placement behavior is controlled by an XML formatted settings file named AutoFittingOptions which is located in the active dataset's data folder. Modifying one line in AutoFittingOptions.xml changes the behavior for the Place Component tools as well as the modification tools, Join and Hookup.
To edit the default elbow in AutoFittingOptions.xml:
- Navigate to the data folder inside the active project to find AutoFittingOptions.xml.
- Open AutoFittingOptions.xml in a text or an XML editor.
- Find the line that determines the elbow Conditions.

Edit the line to read:
<Component type=RectangularElbow item= Mitered /> shape1=1 ... - Save the changes, and close the editor.
- Restart Mechanical discipline.
- Select the Place Duct tool, select rectangular duct using the tool settings, and place a route with a turn. With the new automatic placement behavior in place, a mitred elbow is generated instead of a radius elbow.
